– I simply wanted to take video as I cycled along bush trails, kayaked along creeks, or swam, including underwater. To do this the camera needs to be easy to start recording, easy to stop, and easy to tell whether it is recording or stopped, in circumstances where you cannot see the screen (obviously!). The Akaso Brave 4 doesn’t deliver this function. It’s hard to tell, in noisy and very bright conditions, when it’s mounted on your helmet or handlebars or front of your boat, if it is turned on, recording, stopped or turned off. Consequently it is inevitable that sometimes you will stop it when you meant to start, and you’ll start recording when you think you’re stopping. You won’t be certain that it’s capturing the action. And you’ll miss the bit of action you wanted. Its good quality and economic price would get it five stars from me but it loses two stars for not being easy enough to use, negating the reason for having it.

Action Camera with lots of extras – When I opened the box, I was surprised by just how many little accessories came with the Brave 4. I like that they’re fairly interchangeable with the gopro mounts. I decided to use the waterproof case since it has a gopro type attachment on the bottom and I figure it gives the camera decent protection. I had to dremel a slot into the case so that I could attach the external mic. No biggie since I’m not using the case to film underwater, just to give it some rock and rain protection while on my motorcycle. The video defaults to 4k, but I’m not making a movie for hollywood here, so I set it down to 1080. The little remote control is strapped on just below the camera, it works well and it’s much nicer than trying to work the little buttons on the camera while riding on the highway.

The camera comes with lots of accessories that enable you to use it on the go and underwater. I used it four times while I was snorkeling. The camera was easy to use and the videos were amazing. I used it while exploring the Sunken Cemetery and the Clam Sanctuary on Camiguin Island. My girlfriend loved using it while we rode the motorbike around Camiguin Island. It was very easy to transfer the videos from the camera to my phone over wifi.

Excellent Little Action Camera! – I am totally sold on my Akaso Brave camera. I originally wanted a waterproof sports cam for a sailing/snorkeling trip. Bought an AKASO Brave 4 off Amazon based on good reviews and price. The positive reviews are spot on. I have been very pleasantly surprised at how well this little camera works. I have used it snorkeling down to depths of 20 feet or so and the waterproof case kept the camera perfectly dry. The built-in filter for shooting underwater worked great. I compared the underwater filter with a gel filter that I already had and the pictures with the built-in filter were just as good as the ones taken with my external filter. I am also using my Brave for aviation shots. The wide angle lens is great for in-cockpit and external video shooting towards the plane from the wingtip or tail. The remote trigger has worked as intended and makes getting external shots of my plane very easy. I am going to buy another one of these cameras dedicated to outside mounting so that I can get internal and external shots on the same flight.
