Excellent picture quality, no monthly fee, SD card hold lots of video – I didn’t want a monthly subscription/cloud service. I have two, running on a cellular internet service, with 256 MB cards in each. They hold lots of video and when the card runs out of space it just loops over the oldest video and records over it. Clear picture, very good night vision, you can adjust the motion sensitivity as well as the part of the camera image you want to have motion detected in — go to the phone app and just indicate the areas in the camera image you want motion detected–this was a super helpful feature because part of my field of view will always be in motion (a piece of tarp would always move when windy). Not complicated to use. The only minor annoyance is are the pop ups that ask if you want cloud service, I just click no, and the prompt disappears. I can deal with the mild annoyance for the quality. There is no camera hood built in, so you may need some type of case for outdoor use if not under the roofline/soffit or similar.

Best 2K I’ve seen! – Video quality is actually better than I expected. I’m used to an older 1080p camera, so this upgrade is worth it. But a wireless camera is only as good as it’s app. And I have to say, TP Link has a very good user-friendly app! The only dislike I have is how sensitive the motion detection is. I’ve lowered the sensitivity and set it to “Person Detection” only, but I still get event notifications that motion was detected, and it’s not a person. I have a lot of cars go by my house, and it’ll detect the motion, even if I have set the boundary well before the street. This seems to be just a software issue that TP-Link can fix with an update. Overall, I’m impressed and happy with this camera!

One of my faves – I have a Ring doorbell, 4 blink minis, and a geeni cam and this Tapo outdoor camera is probably my favorite out of all of them. It’s the only one that doesn’t lag on live views and the picture quality is better than my Ring. I don’t like the view range though. With my ring doorbell you can see EVERYTHING outside. Ground, sky, and almost everything left and right of it. With the tapo camera I have to choose whether I want to see my porch OR parking area. I do like the different settings, like “person detection”, “line crossing detection”, “motion detection”, “alarm”, “flood light”, etc and the night vision is FAR superior to my Ring doorbell. You don’t miss alerts either, unlike the “person detection” with the ring doorbell. Tapo will pick up on a person that’s barely within video range, and Ring sometimes won’t pick up on a person even if they’re right in front of it. I don’t like that you aren’t able to set up motion alerts for Tapo through your alexa devices, although you CAN do live view and have all notifications (or whichever ones you choose) sent to your phone Via the Tapo app. I don’t like that tapo doesn’t have an option to continuously record like Ring does. But I like that tapo is wired so there’s no charging it up everyday like I have to do with the Ring doorbell. I also like that you can speak through the Tapo cam like you can the Ring doorbell. Tapo is also very bulky which makes it more difficult if you’re going for subtle. All in all, it’s a great camera and I’d purchase another!
